A Welcome Message from the Polemarch

"There is a wonderful, mystical law of nature that the three things we crave most in
life - happiness, freedom and peace of mind - are always attained by giving them to someone else."
The Atlanta Alumni Chapter - Giving to the Community since 1924

Greetings All and Welcome to our Virtual Home:

My name is Michael P. Henderson and I have the honor of serving as 30th Polemarch of the Atlanta, Georgia Alumni Chapter for the 2007/2008 fraternal year.  The Atlanta Alumni Chapter was established on February 22, 1924 making it just over 83 years old and the second oldest chapter South of the Mason Dixon Line.  Throughout the years the Atlanta Alumni Chapter has served as a shining example of what a collective body of committed Kappa Men can do.

We are extremely active in the community sponsoring annual food, clothing and blood donation drives.  Additionally we conduct annual health fairs and voter education and registration drives.  We are also proud of our successful mentoring partnership with South Atlanta High School and our annual “Student of the Year” contest that allows us to collaborate with the Kappa Foundation of Georgia and Nordstrom Corporation to award scholarships to deserving students based upon a combination of academic criteria and talent.  Additionally we support various other non-profit organizations such as Habitat For Humanity; Hands on Atlanta and Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry and Homeless Campaign in their quests to revitalize and reinvest in our communities.

For our commitment to community service and dedication to the concept of achievement we have been honored by being recognized as the Southeastern Province “J. Michael Graves Large Alumni Chapter of the Year” in 2007 and our Guide Right Program Director was nationally recognized at the 78th Grand Chapter Meeting as the “best of the best” from amongst large category alumni chapters.  Additionally we serve as home for stalwart Kappa Men such as Laurel Wreath Laureate Carl Ware; Elder Watson Diggs Awardees W. Kenneth Jackson, Sr. and the Honorable Mark Anthony Scott; Past Grand Board of Directors Member Dr. Stanley J. Pritchett, Sr.; Past Jr. Grand Vice Polemarchs and Guy L. Grant Awardees Attorney Steven Pritchett and Dr. Reginald Jackson and a host of other national, provincial and local dignitaries.

Additionally, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter serves as the advisory alumni chapter to Pi Chapter (Morehouse College); Beta Delta Chapter (Morris Brown College); Gamma Kappa Chapter (Clark Atlanta University); Kappa Zeta Chapter (Clark Atlanta University Graduate School); and Kappa Theta Chapter (Georgia State University) recently recognized as the Southeastern Province “James B. Hardy” Undergraduate Chapter of the Year for 2007.  Collectively these chapters serve at the forefront of the undergraduate community.

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter has served as the host chapter for several Grand Chapter and Provincial meetings, the most notable being the 46th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1956; the 63rd Grand Chapter Meeting in 1980 and the 74th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1999 often referred to as the largest Conclave in the history of the fraternity.  As we proceed into the future, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter will continue to focus on Achievement, Service to the community and the Development of our Undergraduates.  “It’s Who We Are – It’s What We Do!!!”
